Margerita Jurkovic Signs Margarita's Gridiron Adventure

Margerita Jurkovic

Please join us in welcoming Margerita Jurkovic to our porch Sunday August 4th.  She'll be signing beginning at 11am!  Drop by and learn more about "A Slovenian lawyer's crash course in American football culture."

Slovenian lawyer Margerita Jurkovic, who knew absolutely nothing about American football
when she arrived in Jackson, Mississippi, for Law School, has penned a memoir sure to captivate
the most ardent of fans.
Margerita’s Gridiron Adventure will be published by The Mississippi Sports Council in August
2019 in trade paperback. From taking the reader to high-octane college venues such as Oxford
and Starkville to equally electric high-school games at Pearl and Madison-Ridgeland Academy,
the fast-paced, easy-to-read narrative puts the reader on the sidelines as the young lawyer gets an
education not to be found in a textbook by law professor and mentor Mike Frascogna, Jr.
Yet the book serves as much, much more than just a weekly tailgate recap. Opening her mind to
learning everything she can about what makes Mississippians tick, the lifelong European soon
comes to admire many aspects of Southern culture and tradition.
“The impact Jackson has had on me rivals the almost reverent feelings I have for the Sistine
Chapel in Rome and La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. This place has a deep soul.” Jurkovic said
in Margerita’s Gridiron Adventure. “As soon as you give it a chance, once you meet the people
and soak up their hospitality and be around their families—and their passion for football—it is a
very difficult place to leave.”
“Margerita’s Gridiron Adventure recalls both the grit of Warren St. John’s look at ‘football
down south’ in Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer and the keen European perspective of
Mississippi culture that Richard Grant brought so vividly to Dispatches From Pluto,” said
Frascogna, senior partner of Frascogna Courtney PLLC in Jackson and co-author/executive
producer of football books and television documentaries published by The Mississippi Sports
Council. “Both humorous and poignant—and paced like a two-minute-drill—it is a memoir that
will get under your skin and stay there.”
