We just received the new limited (only 550 pressed) Jazz Fest release by Eric Lindell & the Sunliners, Sunday Morning, a special collection of covers from Eric Lindell and his musical friends, and with the added bonus of guitar legend Anson Funderburgh sittin’ in! The music selections span the works of Billy Preston, the late George Jones,  Merle Haggard, Faron Young, Ernest Tubb and Ronnie Milsap, not to mention our local musical patron, Duke Bardwell. Come grab a copy, they are in limited supply, so let Eric Lindell and the gang wish you a Happy Jazzfest 2013!

Hey friends, as many of you know, Record Store Day is on our heels, and Central Square Records will be celebrating our 5th year participating in this amazing day on Saturday, April 20th! Of course, we will have a majority of the exclusive, limited items that are offered on RSD (click here for a complete list of what’s being released). We are starting to get in our shipments, and things are looking good! We will also have a live performance and vinyl/cd release for Chris Alvarado’s new album Home, at 6pm.  For those who have joined us before, you know we have a lot of giveaways (record totes, label samplers, t-shirts) in addition to the mind-boggling array of Record Store Day releases. We will also hold a drawing for a test pressing of J.J. Grey’s new album The River, which we will give away at the end of the day. This should be our best year yet, and we will have everything at the ready at 8am on Saturday, April 20th! See you here!

It’s true we have something for everyone here, with new releases from the greatly anticipated psychedelic rompers Black Angels, to legendary guitar veteran Eric Clapton. The Black Angels return with their fifth album Indigo Meadow, a full on trip through southern psych in the tradition of fellow Austin, Texan pioneers 13th Floor Elevators, if steeped in Sabbath-driven guitars. Eric Clapton’s Old Sock finds the seasoned guitar slinger combining originals with some intriguing covers, from Peter Tosh’s ‘No Sympathy’, to J.J. Cale’s ‘Angel’ (featuring Cale as well), even touching on Taj Mahal and Leadbelly. So if it’s southern psych garage you’re looking for, or some good ole standby blues (and of course anything in between), Central Square Records is the place to find it.

Come check out the new releases by Johnny Marr (Smiths, Pretenders, The The, Modest Mouse), and Ivan & Alyosha, a Seattle-based folk duo conjuring sounds of Americana firebrands Apache Relay and the rustic musings of the Barr Brothers. Johnny Marr’s release The Messenger, has been described as ‘the king of Britpop featuring big songs, with big hooks, and lots of big guitars’. Ivan & Alyosha’s first full-length album, All The Times We Had, is an offering critics describe as ‘rousing songcraft, infectious melodic hooks, and thoughtful lyrical introspection.’ Come check out these provocative new titles at Central Square Records!

We’ve got some brand new in-store performances comin’ up this weekend: Christ, Lord (Atlanta) will perform Saturday (2/23) at 2pm; and Victor & Penny (Kansas City) will perform Sunday (2/24) at 2pm. Christ, Lord channel a gypsy big band style similar to Man Man, Tom Waits, & Beirut, while Victor & Penny (Seaside Escape to Create visiting artists), tailor antique pop songs from the 20s and 30s for ukulele and guitar. Come check out some great live music as we kick off the season here in our beloved back room!

Hey all, the greatly anticipated, super collective group known as Atoms for Peace will drop their debut Amok, Tuesday, 2/26, and we’ll have it poised and ready for your listening pleasure! If you haven’t been clued in yet, Atoms for Peace consists of Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke; Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers); Nigel Godrich (Producer: Radiohead, Beck); Mauro Refosco (RHCP, Eno); and Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M., Elliott Smith), can you dig that lineup? BBC Music calls it a ‘fascinating indulgence’. We will have both Vinyl and CD available on the release date!

Just giving you guys a heads up that the Definitive Collection by Brett Dennen will release Tuesday, 1/29, and we’ll have it here at Central Square Records! We’ve enjoyed watching this talented singer/songwriter rise to the ranks over the last seven years, to become one of the best of his genre. Hey everyone, we are excited to be a part of the 4th Annual 30A Songwriters Festival again this year, and, as in years past, we have a great lineup of artists. We will also be serving as the headquarters for participating artists’ cds and records, from headliners to up-and-coming talent.
